Many clients don’t get value from their accountant simply because they never ask for it.

Get more value from your accountant.

Great questions to ask (at least once a year)

  • “Looking at my numbers, what worries you the most?”

  • “Where do you see the biggest opportunity to improve my margin or cash?”

  • “Am I using the right structure (sole trader vs company, not using a holding company) based on my income. risk and setup?” Can I do something differently?

  • “Are there any basic tax deductions or incentives I’m missing?” (e.g. specific deductions, investment reliefs, R&D, etc., depending on your case)

Practical steps

  • Ask to include in scope of services/fees at least quarterly advisory meetings to your annual routine, separate from the annual “sign the return or Financial Statements” meeting.

  • Go in with prepared questions and ask your accountant to speak in plain language, not technical terms.
